Totally agree, though there is always the risk that they become an expense during retirement. I don't have children, but I do incorporate legacy giving in my investment thinking. It's a real incentive for me to retain my long-term focus as I think about the good I can do when I'm no longer around physically. It also makes it easier for me (in my 60s) to retain a 10-20 year horizon for much of my portfolio.
